Mission Statement and Purpose
Okezie Family Corporation is a nonprofit organization whose mission aims to provide academic financial assistance to underprivileged but demonstrably academically brilliant students abroad, specifically in the country of Nigeria. This organization has recognized that there are many exceptional students who are born within unfortunate circumstances. However, it should not be a determinant on whether or not a child succeeds. Okezie Family Corporation seeks to change their life trajectories by providing scholarships to qualifying students to attend a higher education institution.
In addition, Okezie Family Corporation desires to partner with academic institutions to find deserving students that meet specific requirements. Applicants must meet the following requirements to determine eligibility:
- Graduating from an accredited high school the academic year of their graduation
- Earning a minimum of a 3.3 GPA
- Demonstrating need for financial assistance
- Planning to enroll full-time in a bachelor’s degree program, majoring in either science, technology, engineering, or mathematics, at an accredited higher education institution in the fall immediately following completion of high school education
- Two letters of recommendation from non-relatives, preferably from high school teachers, principal, or vice-principal or community civic leader(s)
- A copy of an acceptance letter from an accredited college or university
Okezie Family Corporation seeks students who demonstrate the desire and ability to overcome barriers and to achieve their goals. Applications will be evaluated based upon the following:
- Individual determination to succeed
- Future goals and plans to achieve them
- Ability to communicate the hardships you have overcome or currently face
- Self-motivation in completing challenging coursework
- Demonstrates a need for financial assistance
The scholarship application would be modeled after similar applications in use by postsecondary institutions, professional and social associations. Participants would be advised of this scholarship benefit in newsletters and area newspapers that would be issued to inform interested individuals of deadlines. Scholarships would range from $500 to $1,000. Funds for the scholarships will be provided through fundraising activities, personal contributions, and community donations.
